Victor A. Cassidy

Victor A. Cassidy, 73, of 7712 Canal St., Oramel, passed away Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Olean General Hospital, following a lengthy illness. Born August 3, 1948 in Oramel, he was the son of Henry and Iva Hall Cassidy. On March 19, 1968 in St. Patrick’s Rectory in Belfast he married the former Jean Marie Sutterlin, who survives.

Victor had resided all of his life in Oramel. He attended and graduated from Belfast Central School, class of 1968. He served with the Army immediately following graduating from school and following basic in the Army, was sent to Vietnam as a medic. Victor was in combat and as a medic saw much combat there. Upon his return to civilian life, he continued in his field of medicine.

He was employed as an attendant in Sonyea Psyciatric Facility for several years and then to Nursing School to become an RN. He was employed at Gowanda Psyciatric Center for 3 or 4 years. Next in his nursing career he was employed at Houghton Nursing Home for many years and retiring from Groveland Correctional Facility in Mt. Morris.

Victor was an avid yard sale person and has his own sales, as well as visiting other sales. He loved to play poker and was a hobby farmer, raising pigs, cows and chickens. He loved traveling, but most of all, loved his family and friends and spending time with them.

He was a member of the Oramel Fire Dept.

Surviving in addition to his wife Jean Marie, are 5 sons, Kelly (Debbie) Sutterlin of Oramel, Michael A. (Julie Mikolajczyk) Sutterlin of Olean, Brian H. (Jolene Simons) Cassidy of Freedom, NY, Gerald P. Cassidy of Bradenton, FL and Daniel K. Cassidy of Hinsdale; a daughter, Leslie Reddy of Belmont; 7 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Victor was predeceased by 2 Brothers, Lawrence “Bud” Cassidy and Thomas Casssidy; and 2 sisters, Mildred Cassidy and Anna Trumbower.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Treusdell Funeral Home, Belfast. There will be no visitations or funeral at this time. Memorials can be made to the Allegany Co. SPCA.
