Sandra J. “Sandy” Morton

Sandra J. "Sandy" Morton, 77, of 60 West Hughes St. passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at Houghton Nursing Facility, Houghton, NY, following a lengthy illness. Born August 4, 1941 in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of William and Lillian Fisher Messing. On January 27, 1977, in the Caneadea United Methodist Church, she married James K. Morton, who survives.

Sandy had grown up in Niagara Falls and came to Belfast in 1971 where she was employed at MCGuires Resturant-Bar then the Irish Kitchen both in Belfast. Until 1996 she was a dairy farmer with her husband in Caneadea. During the time she was a farmer she also was a clerk in Fays Drug Store in Belfast until the early 1980's. After that she was employed at The Rushford Bakery for a short time and then at the Community Bank, NA in Belfast, New York and the Belfast Post Office.

Things that Sandy liked to do are gardening and making and painting ceramics. Most of all she loved her family and spending time with them especially her grandchildren.

She was a member of the Belfast United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband Jim are a son, Kevin J. (Stephanie) Morton of Houghton; two daughters, Kim M. Morton of Belfast and Holly A. (Joseph) Iadresin of Caneadea; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; a brother, Dale (Anita) Messing of Cleveland, OH; and several nieces and nephews.

Sandy was predeceased by a son, Thomas P. Biamonte.

Friends may call at the Treusdell Funeral Home, Belfast from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Monday August 27, 2018. Funeral and committal services will be held Tuesday August 28, 2018 at 2 pm. at the Belfast Free Methodist Church. The Rev. Robert Mackmer of Belfast will officiate and burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Belfast. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association 4955 N. Bailey Ave, #217, Amherst, NY 14226.
