Mary E. Boyd

Mary E. Boyd passed away April 3, 2023 at home in Belfast after a short illness, she was 85. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who dedicated her working life to caring for others.

She earned her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Excelsior College and a Master of Science at St. John Fisher College in Rochester.

Early in her career, Mary gained critical care experience while working in hospitals in New York, New Jersey, Virginia and Illinois while following her husband during his 20 years of service in the Navy. Upon returning to Allegany County, Mary worked at Belfast Central School as a school nurse before joining the staff at Cuba Memorial as Associate Care Coordinator of a medical/surgical floor.

She was a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, the American Association of Health Care Executives and held Board Certification in Nursing Administration from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

She was stubborn in the best way, quick-witted and gregarious. Mary had an infectious laugh and made sure to always sit near the salt shaker at meal times. She lived for many years with her Boston Terrier Sailor, and recently adopted Pebbles to keep her company.
