Jon Lee Shauf, 58, of Allegany, NY, went to be with his family and the Lord on Sunday December 8, 2019 at the Olean General Hospital, after a lengthy illness. He was born June 3, 1961 in Chambersburg, Pa to the late John W. and Elois (Stern) Shauf.
Jon grew up in Chambersburg and graduated from the Chambersburg Area Senior High School. He was an avid Boy Scout member. One of the most memorable Scouting moments taking place at the end of a Hidden Valley jamboree, when a camp nurse had to pull off the bandage of a badly cut knee to show his parents the wound and stitches. Jon cried when the bandage was hastily removed. His little sisters giggled. Jon received a permanent scar but no merit badge for this.
He became a gentle giant. He held many positions as a cook. Jon relocated to Western New York to be closer to his family. He continued to cook and worked as a mechanic for Griffith Oil.
He enjoyed gardening, traveling in his truck, hosting picnics, doing good for others and his friends.
He attended the First Baptist Church in Olean.
He is survived by his best friend and love, Diane Gilbert of Allegany, NY; his sister, Joy of Alexandria, VA; his brother, Jay of Shippensburg, PA; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, and a sister, Jan (Shauf) Sherwood.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Treusdell Funeral Home, Friendship, NY. Services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
