Heather L. Nickens

Heather Lamar Nickens of 23 Stevens Avenue. passed away unexpectedly and went to be with her Lord on Saturday November 21, 2015 at Jones Memorial Hospital. Born June 5, in Cuba, she was the daughter of Clinton and Luci A. Groves Nickens.

Heather grew up in Friendship, and was a 1985 graduate of Friendship Central School, class of 1985. After graduation, she moved to Binghamton to continue her education at SUNY Binghamton University, graduating in 1989. She was employed in Binghamton at Catholic Charities as a behavioral specialist for the next nine years. She then moved back to Friendship and was employed at Olean Rehabilitation Center as a behavioral specialist for several years. Later she was employed she was employed at Friendship Central School through Americorps for the next few years.

Heather was a Evangelist Missionary for the Church of God in Christ and traveled extensively around the US for missionary work for the Church.

She enjoyed music, entertaining her God- Children, traveling, studying God's Word and spending time with her family.

She was a member of the Friendship Church of God in Christ , Women's Jewish Group of Friendship, Sunday School Teacher and President of the Usher Board at Friendship Church of God in Christ.

Surviving are her mother and father, Pastor Luci and Emmanuel Laventure of Friendship; three brothers, Quincy Groves of Friendship, Curtis Groves of Friendship, and Clinton Nickens III of LeRoy; a sister, Lindsey Groves of Friendship; loving God children, NaKeisha Barber and Kuzma, Aaliyah, and Jerome Harmon of Friendship; five uncles, Joseph Groves of Friendship, Russell (Lorrain) Groves of Baltimore, MD, Pierre Baptise of Brooklyn, Arnold Laventure of Brooklyn, and George (Millie) Nickens of Elmira; and three aunts, Naomi Solomon of Friendship, Carol Gilmore of Elmira, and Jose' (Kesne) Cellestin of Dacula, GA

Heather was predeceased by an aunt, Eunice Barber.

The viewing will be held at the Treusdell Funeral Home in Friendship, NY on Tues, November 24, 2015 from 2-5 pm. Funeral services will be held Wednesday November 25, 2015 at noon at the Friendship Church of God in Christ. Rev. Dr. Russell Groves of Baltimore, MD will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Friendship, NY. Memorials can be made to Friendship Church of God in Christ Mission AGAPE Food Pantry of Friendship.
