Harry J. Carney

Harry J. Carney, 95, of 28 South Branch Rd., passed away Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Wellsville Manor Nursing Home, following a brief illness. Born August 4, 1922 in Galeton, PA, he was the son of John L. and Julia E. Douglas Carney. In Friendship, on July 3, 2003, he married the former Ruth E. Cline, who survives.

Harry had resided most of his life in Friendship. He had attended the Cuba School System and then served with the Navy during WW2, where he saw combat in the Pacific theater and receiving several medals. After the Navy, he worked several years in the oil fields around Wellsville. In 1950 he became employed at Worthington Corp. in Wellsville where he eventually became a supervisor, retiring in 1968. For many winters he enjoyed residing in Florida.

He enjoyed gardening and traveling and especially being with family and friends.

Harry was a member of the Friendship American Legion Post # 1168 and the AM Vets Club in Cuba.

Surviving besides his wife, Ruth are three sons, John (Kathy) Carney of Friendship, David (Pat) Carney of Bolivar and Dan (Ellen) Carney of Friendship; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; two brothers, Richard (Caroline) Carney of Friendship and Arthur (Marge) Carney of Nile; and several nieces and nephews.

Harry was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra Teller; two brothers, John Carney and Alfred Carney; a sister; and a grandson, Dale Teller.

There will be no visitation or funeral. A Graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
