Fred J. Gilliland

Fred J. Gilliland, 85 of 8078 Co. Rd. 40, Town of Clarksville, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2013 following a lengthy illness. Born March 22, 1928 in Galeton, PA, he was the son of Warren F. and Mildred I. Wilson Gilliland. On October 27, 1951 in Cuba, he married the former Reva B. Stoddard, who survives.

Fred had resided most of his life in the Town of Clarksville. He was raised in Andover and attended a rural district school there. His family moved to the Town of Clarksville and Fred worked with his father on the family farm for several years. Later he was employed at ACA Oil Co. in Olean and DF Hickock Co. in Scio as a tool dresser. After that he was employed as a truck driver for the Town of Clarksville for 10 ½ years then as a truck driver for Allegany Co. Highway Dept. for the next 17 years, retiring in 1985.

Fred enjoyed hunting and visiting with his friends and family.

He was a past member of the VFW Post # 9478 of Franklinville and the Conservation Club of Franklinville.

Surviving in addition to his wife Reva, are a son, Collie F. (Barb) Gilliland of Town of Clarksville; a brother, Ted Gilliland of Belmont; two sisters, Liz (George) Edwards of Cuba, and Ethel Harris of West Clarksville; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitations. Private funeral services will be held at a time set by the family. The Rev. Leslie Chambers, pastor of the 1st Baptist Church of West Clarksville, will officiate and burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Bolivar.
