Estelle L. Frutiger

Estelle L. Frutiger, 90, of 21 East Main St., passed away Friday, February 14, 2014 at her home, following a brief illness. Born June 6, 1923 in Springfield, MA, she was the daughter of Roland and Ethel Starrett Taylor. On June 6, 1953 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, she married Keith E. Frutiger who died March 5, 2001.

Estelle had grown up in Springfield, MA and at the age of 12, she and her family moved to Elizabeth , New Jersey, then to Union, New Jersey. She was a 1941 graduate of Batton High School in Elizabeth. For the next 44 years she and her husband resided in Union, New Jersey and in December of 2003 she moved to Friendship.

She enjoyed being active in her church, crocheting, cross stitching, bowling in various leagues and winning trophies for bowling. She loved her family and being with them.

Estelle was a 42 year member of the Union, New Jersey 1st Baptist Church and attended the United Church of Friendship. She was a member of the Red Hats of Friendship and a staunch supporter of Houghton Academy.

Surviving are two sons, Daniel E. (Nancy) Frutiger of Jackson, New Jersey, and Glenn K. (Marlayna) Frutiger of Friendship, NY; a daughter, Lois E. Frutiger of Friendship, NY; four grandsons, Willard Frutiger, Nathaniel (Megan) Frutiger, Luke Kuhn, and Charles Frutiger; two granddaughters, Rebecca Frutiger and Ashley Frutiger; and a great granddaughter, Isabelle Frutiger; and several nieces and nephews. Estelle was the sole survivor of 6 siblings.

Friends may call at the United Church of Friendship from 2:00 to-4:00 pm on Sunday, February 16, 2014, at which time (4:00 pm) funeral services will be held. The Rev. Kirk Kirch, pastor will officiate and burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park, Vestal, New York. Memorials may be made to the United Church of Friendship.
