Edward C. Baumgardner Jr.

Edward C. Baumgardner Jr., 77, of 4935 Maple Grove Rd., passed away April 5, 2023 at home unexpectedly after a brief illness. Born in McKeesport, PA on November 23, 1945, he was the son of the late Edward C. Baumgardner Sr. and Elda Mae Baumgardner.

Ed grew up in Pennsylvania and graduated from Norwin High School in Irwin, PA, was a graduate of Penn State and earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Ed worked a majority of his life in the accounting/tax world, having worked for the Pittsburgh Penguins organization early in his career, then onto several banks before coming to Friendship in 1978 to work for Drake Manufacturing Co., Inc. a division of Macler Industries, then Friendship Foundry before working for Adelphia Cable as a tax manager, then transferring to Telcove Communications where he retired in 2008; Ed then began a consulting, accounting and tax business out of his home.

Ed was a well-respected man around town, a member of the Friendship Fire Department and Sons of the American Legion (S.A.L) Post 1168.

Ed was previously married to and survived by Karen A. Baumgardner and has 3 children, 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren:

A son, Daniel V. McCarthy of Friendship, NY; 2 daughters, Carey J. (McCarthy) Sparbel of Cheektowaga, NY and Hilary L. (McCarthy) Crosier of Kenmore, NY; 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren – Jacqui Farrell and Robbie Braithwaite (great grandson); Jenna McCarthy and (great grandchildren) Eilah, Ameliah and Miloh Flodin, James McCarthy, Zachary Sparbel, Alexander Sparbel, and Tyler Sparbel (great granddaughter due in May 2023), Cameron Crosier, Caden Crosier and Kayla Crosier.

Arrangements are under the direction of Treusdell Funeral Home, Friendship, NY. There will be no visitation or formal funeral, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to be announced by the family.
