Doris P. Schoonover, 78, of 16 Penna. Ave. passed away Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Highland Healthcare Center, Wellsville, following a brief illness. Born January 31, 1938 in Cuba, NY, she was the daughter of Albert L. and Dorothy E. Shanley Pierce. On February 11, 1956 in Friendship, she married Lewis J. Schoonover, who predeceased her January 24, 1986.
Doris had grown up in the Friendship area and attended the Friendship Central School system. For a number of years, she was employed at a poultry farm in the area. For the next many years she devoted to raising her family.
She enjoyed cooking, attending church services, watching TV with soap opera's, wheel of Fortune, Sports of all kinds. Most of all, her biggest love was her family, spending time with them and visiting them.
She was a member of the Friendship Bible Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Lewis J. (Holly) Schoonover of Jamestown; six daughters, Delores P. Sherman of Friendship, Patricia L. (Bruce) Olmstead of Friendship, Sandra E. (Gilbert) Lapiere of Friendship, Marjorie D. Schoonover of Belmont,
Beverly K. (Glenn) Taft of Friendship, and Frances (Jerold) Lehman of Wellsville; twenty grandchildren and three great grandchildren; three brothers, James Pierce of Warren, PA, Albert Pierce of Friendship, and Ron (Dee) Pierce of Olean;
two sisters, Alberta Pierce of Detroit, MI, and Gloria Homuth of Cuba; and several nieces and nephews.
Doris was predeceased by three brothers, John Pierce, Edwin Pierce and Robert Pierce; and four sisters, Nellie Graves, Lora Williams, Linda Ishman and Mary Lozell.
Friends may call at the Treusdell Funeral Home, Friendship, from 2-4 and 7-9pm Tuesday December 20, 2016, where funeral services will be held Wednesday December 21, 2016 at 12 noon. The Rev. Duane Broadwell, Pastor of the Friendship Bible Baptist Church will officiate and burial will be in Cuba Cemetery, Cuba. Memorials may be made to the Friendship Bible Baptist Church.
