Dolly Irene Soanes Marks

Dolly I. Soanes Marks, 88, of 31 Penna. Ave was welcomed back into the Kingdom on Thursday, July 7, 2016 after a lengthy dehabilitating hospital stay. Born September 23, 1927 in Buffalo, New York, she was the daughter of Chauncey and Ruth Lanphere Soanes. On June 30, 1951 in Hamlin, New York, she married Arno J. Marks who predeceased her August 12, 1993 after 42 years of marriage.

Dolly was a graduate of SUNY of Brockport earning her teaching degree. She and her husband moved to Friendship in 1970 from Syracuse. She was a member of the Red Hat Society; Friendship First United Methodist Church; the Methodist Women and Friendship Legion Auxilary Post # 1168.

She enjoyed playing cards, board games with her friends and grandchildren with her motto of "show no mercy". Also she enjoyed her Music Literary Guild Group; reading; traveling to see family and friends, Celtic Thunder and her church family and its family.

Surviving are two sons, George E. (Yvonne) Marks, and Jeffrey A. (Tracy) Marksboth of Friendship; four daughters, Theresa A. (late Robert) Landsman of Hudson Falls, NY, Sheryl A. Madison of Kent, NY, Lorilyn A. (Charles) Cole of Hilton, NY, and Julie A. (John) Schleyer of Colden, NY; 16 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; sisters in law, Velma (late Kenneth) Speer, and Marlene (John) Mayer; and several nieces and nephews.

Dolly was predeceased by brother, Chauncey "Sonny" (Evelyn) Soanes Jr.; brother in law, Everett (Jean) Marks; sisters, Violet (Frank) Pierce, and Joyce (Leo) Powers; and sisters in law, Lois Bliss, and Arlona (Robert) Shelden.

Friends and family are invited to visitations at the Treusdell Funeral Home, Friendship 2-4 and 7-9 pm Tuesday July 12, 2016. Funeral services to celebrate Dolly's life will be held Wednesday July 13, 2016 at the Friendship 1st United Methodist Church at 11:00 am. The Rev.Clara Wilder, Pastor will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Friendship. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice or Friendship United Methodist Church, Genesee Valley Rotary Camp C/O Lori Cole 1102 West Ave. Hilton, NY 14468.
